Nothing Is Easy...

Elton John - Friends "My best friend bought me this album when we were 15. I loved Elton, but never heard of this one. She wrote the lyrics to this song, she had beautiful penmanship! I am 60 now, she and I lost touch. I saw her at the funeral home when my mom passed in 2005. I begged her to come to the funeral, and she did. But she was gone as fast as she got there. She had gotten married, had her second son and he had the longest Polish name, I could NEVER find her!!!! Well, a couple month's ago I decided to google her with her maiden name. She passed August 10, 2017.........Oh dear Lord, I cry everytime I play this!!!!! I still have the album, with the words she wrote :( I miss you so much my dear friend Laura Anne Wietnik. I will forever love and miss you. I just can't believe you are gone already.....we thought we would live forever at 15"  

È una frase che risuona diversamente quando la si è vista all'opera, non solo in televisione o sui libri.  Sono stato testimone di come l'odio non sia solo un sentimento astratto, ma un meccanismo brutale di distruzione.  Nel 2000 sono stato in Etiopia.  Ho visto coi miei occhi i camion caricare i giovani affamati dai villaggi più poveri: partivano numerosi con la promessa di un pasto al giorno per essere mandati a morire nel conflitto con l'Eritrea.  Di questi, pochi tornavano e quelli che tornavano spesso erano mutilati e costretti a mendicare.  Nel 2010 sono stato a Timor Est.  La guerra civile era finita da poco più di un anno.  Un mio amico sacerdote si è visto consegnare tutti i bambini di un intero villaggio perché li proteggesse e lui li ha presi e li ha portati nella giungla per due settimane.  Quando sono tornati i militanti se ne erano andati lasciando i bambini orfani e i corpi degli abitanti selvaggiamente straziati a colpi di mach...
